Since ancient times steam therapy has been used by traditional healing systems around the world to improve and maintain good health and wellness. Turkish Baths, Native American Sweat Lodges, Finnish Saunas, Japanese Steam Rooms and Roman Greek Bath Houses are all good examples of how different cultures have used steam therapy.
Hippocrates recognized that by creating an "artificial fever" he could help treat many illnesses. Serenity Massage Spa's Steamy Wonder Canopy Treatment allows you to utilize steam therapy's benefits as an essential part of your wellness plan.
An average person can easily loose 500 grams of sweat in a sauna (the equivalent of running three to four miles) or 475 to 600 calories. The water loss is regained by re-hydration, while the calories and fatty tissue remain burned off. Weight loss will vary based on the individual body type, eating properly and exercise is an ideal process to enhance any good weight reduction.
Steam Therapy has been often used in treatment of arthritis, rheumatism, joint stiffness and muscle spasms. Relax in the Steamy Wonder Canopy while your body eliminates toxins and increases circulation promoting healing in all your joints and muscles. The deep moist heat helps relieve pain by causing the blood vessels to dilate, increasing blood circulation and allowing more oxygen to get to soft tissue for faster healing. As pores open up and the millions of sweat glands start to excrete, the body rids itself of toxins. The skin is sometimes called the "third kidney" because sweat contains much of the same elements as urine. This is why sweating is such an effective way to detoxify. Sweat also draws out lactic acid which causes stiff muscles and contributes to general fatigue. Adding a steam treatment directly after your massage session will enhance your wellness experience and draw out the lactic acid your massage has pushed out of your soft tissues. You will be lying down on a comfortable massage table so your body is evenly heated for maximum blood flow.
Steam treatment minimum length of time required to accomplish wellness is 10 minutes, however treatments last 20-30 minutes. The time and temperature in the canopy will depend upon the clients comfort and tolerance for the heat, and the time it takes for the client to perspire.
